The Ultimate Costa Rica Drink: Naughty Granizado
What is a Naughty Granizado? This is a Taya Page creation after a failed attempt of making Granizado on
Valentine's night.
Since we didn't have dates it was mother-daughter girl’s night. We had it all planned out. The
the night included dinner and a movie at home with lots of popcorn, snacks, and a special ice drink.
Both of us were looking forward to the ice drink that night. One of our friends had just moved
back to the States and we bought her Ninja blender. We had been blending different drinks from
smoothies two milkshakes for the last week. We wanted to see if the Ninja was up for an ice
drink challenge.
The plan was to use the Ninja to create homemade Granizados. We kept running into a problem
of the ice not turning into a slushy texture. The machine would grind some of the ice but we
still had big chunks of ice.
The problem was we were not putting enough liquid into the mixture. A traditional Granizado is served with the syrup over the ice not blended in with the ice. In order to fix this problem, we added flavored syrup. This worked well turning the ice into a snowcone-like texture.
A couple of days later I asked Taya what drink we should serve at the next pool party. She replied,
"let's make Granizado with a twist?" When I asked her what she was talking about she said I want
to make a Naughty Granizado.
As she chuckled, I and asked: "what's a Naughty Granizado." She smiled and answered back. I'm going to fix the ice problems we had with the Ninja by using guaro as the liquid. We use Cacique for those of you who don't know what Cacique is it's a cheap Costa Rican liquor made from sugarcane. It reminds me of vodka.
We did a test run later that night. It worked great. I can’t wait for my next pool party. I am looking forward to serving this deliciously sweet iced drink to my friends and family.
TIP: Depending on how strong you like your drinks, you still might need to add a little
syrup to when mixing the ice.

Place 4 cups ice into the Nija/Blinder.
Add 1/2 cup Guaro
Mix for 30 seconds to a minute using the puls button periodically.
Add 1/4 cup Sirope Con Sabora (flavored syrup).
This should make the consistency of a snow cone.
If ice is not at the consistency you want to add the remaining Sirope Con Sabora (flavored syrup).
Fill your glass a quarter of the way full with the snowcone mixture.
Add a pinch of Pinito leche Entera en polvo (Powder milk) to the top of the drink.
Drizzle Leche Condensada (Condensed milk) over the snowcone mixture to the top of the drink.
Add any extra Sirope Con Sabora (flavored syrup).
